House setting up bipartisan group to examine policing

WASHINGTON (AP) -

House Speaker Paul Ryan says a new bipartisan group in the House will examine policing issues in America.

Ryan says he's spoken with members of the Congressional Black Caucus and others on how to come up with solutions.

Creation of the working group follows high-profile killings of black men by police, as well as the sniper killings in Dallas of five police officers by a man who said he wanted to kill white people.

The events have roiled the nation and attracted attention on gridlocked Capitol Hill, though a legislative response by Congress seems unlikely.

Ryan spoke of the new working group on CNN Tuesday night. House GOP aides said more information would be made public on Wednesday. Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte is taking a lead role.
