Therapist shot by police has reunion with autistic client
AVENTURA, Fla. (AP) -- An unarmed black therapist who was shot by police last week while protecting his autistic client had an emotional reunion with the man. Charles Kinsey told reporters Thursday outside a South Florida hospital that Arnaldo Rios jumped from his bed and hugged him. The 27-year-old Rios is recovering from emotional trauma he suffered when Kinsey was shot in the leg by a North Miami police officer last week while lying next to him.
The 47-year-old Kinsey stood with a cane. The rifle bullet struck him just above the knee, went through his thigh and exited near his waist.
The shooting is under investigation by state officials. The officer who fired the shot remains on paid leave. A police commander is on unpaid suspension for allegedly fabricating information about the shooting.
