Biegel, Badgers expect a "home game" atmosphere at Lambeau Field

For the third straight season, the Badgers will open up their schedule with a neutral-site game against an SEC opponent.

Only the last two years weren't so "neutral."

LSU fans dominated NRG Stadium in Houston during their 2014 matchup with Wisconsin, and Alabama fans were even louder during the Crimson Tide's drubbing of the Badgers in Dallas last season.

Though LSU fans are expected to travel very well on Saturday, the Badgers hope will be a different story this time around - at historic Lambeau Field.

"I'm hoping it's vice versa and we have more of a home game feel," Badgers sophomore center Michael Deiter said. "It's in Wisconsin, but I'm sure they'll travel well, which will be fun for them to have some fans there. But I expect a more home game-feel."

"I expect it to be a home game for us, see a lot of red," Sojourn Shelton, a senior defensive back, said. "I expect the stadium to be rocking, I know the atmosphere is going to be crazy. I see a lot of hype."

It's a game years in the making - the first major college football game ever played at Lambeau Field. And it's a moment star Badgers linebacker Vince Biegel, a Wisconsin Rapids native, has dreamed of all his life.

"Growing up as a diehard Packer fan, I had a few cheeseheads in my closet," he said with a smile. I was very passionate about the Packers.

"To be able to come full circle and to be able to play at Lambeau Field, it means a lot," Biegel continued. "I think it's a special moment... for the state of Wisconsin. To have Wisconsin play at Lambeau Field and represent us and get that win."

Kickoff for the Badgers season opener is at 2:30 on Saturday. You can watch the game exclusively on Newsline 9.
