A man once acquitted in the death of a rival gang member in Virginia has been arrested in Wisconsin where he's suspected of killing a 31-year-old Green Bay area woman.
The 38-year-old man is expected to appear in Brown County Circuit Court Thursday to be formally charged with killing Nicole VanderHeyden. The body of the 31-year-old Ledgeview woman was found in a farm field in May.
USA Today Network-Wisconsin says the man in custody was tried for murder and four other offenses in 1998 in Virginia for the shooting death of a man prosecutors say was a rival gang leader.
A jury in Newport News acquitted him of first-degree murder, two counts of using a firearm during a felony, attempted maiming and shooting into an occupied car.
