Sotomayor calls job on high court blessing and curse
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor says her job is both a blessing and a curse.
Sotomayor told a packed theater during an appearance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on Thursday that she still marvels that she holds a position on the court. But she says a burden comes with the job because every decision the court makes affects so many people and each ruling creates losers.
She also said she the court comes across as a mystery to most people. She said if people understood the justices are human beings with experiences and are passionate about the law they might change their perception of the court as a "distant and unknowable institution."
Sotomayor is the first Hispanic and third woman to sit on the nation's highest court.
