Athlete of the Week: Conrad Bolz, Medford

For the Medford Raiders, running back Conrad Bolz is the x-factor -- he's a big play waiting to happen.

"At anytime he can take it to the house," Medford coach Ted Wilson said. "He has great vision and he's a very shifty runner."

Bolz was electric in the Raiders' week 5 victory over conference rival Merrill, lighting up the Blue Jays from the very first play from scrimmage.

"We executed perfectly with everybody and we got the edge," Bolz said, recalling his 77-yard run for six. "It helped a lot with momentum on our side."

"I think his game last week was great... 18 carries for 169 yards is a phenomenal night," coach Wilson added.

Bolz -- an All-Conference player in 2015 -- is rumbling his way toward the best season of his high school career. The Great Northern's leading rusher is on pace for more total yards, yards per carry, and double his scores from a year ago.

"It's always important for a senior to go out with a bang and do the best he possibly can," Bolz said.

Through five games this year, Bolz has nine touchdowns with 663 yards rushing, averaging more than seven yards per carry. And for all his success running the football, Bolz credits his coach for helping his fleet feet find room to run.

"Coach Wilson has always beat down on me so bad that I need to stick through the right hole and take the correct path, to get to the right spot," Bolz said. "[Because] once you find space with with a fast team, you can kill teams like that."
