The Log Game Friday night is Red vs Blue, East vs West, and Warrior vs Lumberjack as opposites collide for the most notorious trophy in Wausau.
This game is Donald Trump 'huuuuge" for both teams - Wausau West can regain momentum with their fourth win in conference play and propel themselves to a likely playoff birth. East needs this win. They are in the midst of conference alignment controversy and haven't won this big battle against West since 2012.
This game will be decided when Wausau East has the ball. The Lumberjacks are fourth in the conference in passing and, while much of that is due to being down late in games, they have shown the ability to take and make shots through the air.
But they run into a Warrior wall. West is one of the top defenses in the conference, giving up less than 20 points per game and only 11 points per game in their three wins. That's just one matchup in a unique rivalry.
"This is a neat one." Wausau West head coach Jason Foster said. "Wausau divided into two high schools 47 years ago. There is a lot of history behind it. A lot of really close games regardless of records."
While East is in the midst of a tough stretch on the field, the stage is still large for the Lumberjacks.
"Unfortunately we haven't had the greatest seasons the last few," Wausau East head coach Tom Tourtillott said. "But at the same time, what's great about the Log Game is you always get to play in front of a packed house. Thom Field will be rockin' and that's pretty cool."
This should be one of those nights where you don't see too many cars on Wausau roads right around 7 p.m. Wausau West is trying to continue their road to the playoffs while East aims to be a road block.
