Quake shakes central Italy

Posted:

ROME (AP) -- There are reports of damage to buildings after a 5.4 magnitude quake rattled central Italy today. It brought down power lines and sent panicked residents into the streets, just two months after a powerful earthquake topped nearby villages and killed nearly 300 people.

The mayor of a tiny town near some of the areas hardest-hit by the August quake says the town is without power, and waiting for emergency crews.

Today's quake was felt from Perugia in Umbria to the capital Rome to the central Italy town of Aquila, which was struck by a deadly quake in 2009.

The mayor of Aquila says there are no reports of damage.
