How to pay it forward in Marathon County for "Giving Tuesday"
WAUSAU (WAOW) -
Black Friday and Cyber Monday are all about shopping for deals, but "Giving Tuesday" is focused on paying it forward.
"Giving Tuesday" encourages people to donate whatever they can to a charity or organization in their area, whether it's money, goods, or time volunteering.
United Way of Marathon County, an organization that helps other charities and people in need, is putting the giving spirit online this year.
The organization has opened a web page where people can donate money for children's winter clothes.
The clothes are then donated to a project called Rebecca's Closet, founded by United Way's Women in Action group.
If you buy one item for a child, an anonymous donor will match it, and so will the Women in Action organization.
"So if you purchase one pair of mittens, for example, we'll actually get three pairs of mittens to be able to distribute through Rebecca's Closet to kids in need in our community," Sue Haupt, communications director of United Way of Marathon County, said.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the organization received enough donations to dress at least 90 kids in the area for winter.
