Wausau teacher wins $100,000 grant

A Wausau school district teacher received a gift many teachers can only dream of.

After writing, proposing and getting locals to vote, Wausau East teacher Paula Hase won a grant for $100,000 from Farmers Insurance, as part of the Thank America's Teachers Challenge.

The company has given millions of dollars to teachers across the nation to help further students' education.

"At Farmers Insurance, we received a lot of technology based proposals. We hadn't received in the past very many that were based on broadcasting. So, this one really had a plan in place behind it to connect the technology to the curriculum," said Kelly LaMar of Farmers Insurance.

Hase plans to use this grant to upgrade the current broadcasting studio to all digital like new iPads, editing software and much more.

She also said she couldn't be more thrilled to be the first teacher in the state of Wisconsin to win.

"It's great to be standing here," Hase said. "This is a win for the Wausau school district and a win for the Wausau East High School."

Six teachers across the nation will receive the $100,000 grant this year.
