Pocan demands apology from Duffy for communist comment
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -
Democratic U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan is demanding that his Republican colleague from northern Wisconsin apologize for referring to Madison as a communist community.
Rep. Sean Duffy made the comment in an interview on Fox News broadcast nationwide last week. Duffy, of Wausau, was being interviewed about the presidential recount requested by Green Party candidate Jill Stein.
Duffy called Madison a "progressive liberal communist community."
He falsely alleged that Dane County was the only one hand counting ballots in the recount as an effort to stall. The state Elections Commission says 47 counties are doing hand recounts and another 13 are doing partial hand recounts.
Pocan represents Madison in Congress. He calls Duffy's insinuation that people from Madison are un-American is "extremely alarming."
Duffy's spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Duffy took to twitter following criticism for his comments.
The PC crowd is humorless. For those offended by my "communist" comment, I'll send a therapy dog to your "safe place" of choice in Madison.
