MARATHON, Wis. (WAOW) -

Marathon High School's head football coach is resigning after one of the best seasons in Marathon football history.

Todd Stoffel handed in his letter of resignation last Friday and it will be reviewed at Wednesday night’s school board meeting, Stoffel told Newsline 9.

Stoffel led the Red Raiders to an 8-4 mark in 2017 and D6 Level 3 appearance before falling to the eventual state runner-up Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds.

His son, Nathan, is set to graduate from Marathon this spring and signed his National Letter of Intent to play Division I football at the University of South Dakota.
