Still cold but not too stormy

Frigid February weather Frigid February weather

Monday night: Flurries possible well south of Marathon County early.  Clearing and very cold.

Low: -10  Wind: NW~5

Tuesday: Mostly sunny and rather cool.

High: 10 Wind: NW 5 to 10 becoming W

Rather cool weather will continue for the rest of the week, but no major storm systems are expected. A small low pressure system was passing just south of our region Monday causing several inches of snow. Some of the flurries from that could graze areas south of Marathon County early Monday evening, but generally skies will clear off overnight. This will allow for frigid temperatures once again, down close to -10 by Tuesday morning.

Winds will be northwest around 5 mph. Tuesday should feature lots of sunshine with highs around 10. The wind will be from the northwest around 5 mph then becoming west later in the day. Another weak weather system will move through late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning and could bring a dusting of light snow or flurries. Lows will reach either side of zero Tuesday night.

Skies should clear off Wednesday afternoon with a high near 13. Thursday and Friday look pretty quiet with partly sunny skies and highs in low to mid 10s. Lows will be in the -0s.

A low pressure system passing south of Wisconsin Saturday will have some potential to spread light snow across our region, however it is a low confidence situation yet. We will just have to monitor later developments on that. Otherwise highs should reach the upper 10s Saturday.

The pattern looks a touch warmer by Sunday and Monday with more sunshine. Highs could climb into the 20s, which would make for some great conditions for outdoor recreation.

Have a nice night! Meteorologist Tony Schumacher, 3:10 p.m., 5-February 2018
