A 21-year-old woman called in a threat of a gunman at a school to divert police away as she attempted to shoplift, according to the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department.
Lincoln High School was put on lockdown Tuesday after a report was made of a gunman walking around inside. School was canceled due to weather, so only a few staff members were present.
Police said the woman was shoplifting at a nearby store and made the threat to "draw resources away from the shoplifting complaint and to Lincoln High School."
A sweep of the school was conducted, but no one was found.
The woman is now facing obstruction and disorderly conduct charges. Police are not releasing her name.
The lockdown lasted about 40 minutes, the school said.
Security will be increased Wednesday at the school with extra law enforcement patrolling the campus, according to the school.
