March 22 anniversary remembered at Everest Metro PD

WESTON (WAOW)- Family, friends and law enforcement officers gathered in Weston at the Everest Metro Police Department Thursday to mark the anniversary of the March 22 shooting rampage in Weston, Schofield and Rothschild.

Police and fire radios broadcast the following message about the victims at about 1:16 p.m.:

"In observance of the one year anniversary of March 22, 2017 tragedy, we ask that you now take a moment of silence in remembrance of the victims: Karen L. Barclay, Dianne M. Look, Sara H. Quirt Sann and Everest Metro Police Detective Jason Weiland.”

The four victims were co-workers of the gunman's wife, the wife's attorney in a bitter divorce and a police detective who responded to the shootings.

During the observance an honor guard stood watch over a memorial stone standing outside the police department in honor of Detective Jason Weiland.

Newsline 9 talked with Everest Metro Police Chief Clay Schulz leading up to the event and talked about the strong community support.

"It is nice to know they have our backs and support us without that it would be a lot more difficult than it is today," Everest Metro Chief Clay Schulz said.

Inside the department there are  displays set up with cards, letters and pictures sent by community members
