Bank lender McManus wins Marshfield mayor race

Bob McManus, a bank lender originally from Los Angeles, defeated City Councilor Tom Witzel in the Marshfield mayoral race. Neither candidate had ever run for mayor before.

McManus won by about 250 votes.

He said he was both thrilled and surprised by the news and he is eager to get started.

Moving forward, he said he will work closely with his opponent, who will continue to serve on the city council.

"I'm hoping what I do over the next several months will help me earn the trust of these folks," McManus said. "I also had a chance to speak with Tom Witzel. I think Tom is a great guy. We had a nice conversation. I'm looking forward to working with him on the council."

Witzel sent Newsline 9 the following statement after the results were announced:

I congratulate Mr. McManus on his successful election as mayor.  I would like to thank all the citizens who believed in my message and voted for me.  I am thankful for the opportunity I had to run for the position.  I have met so many wonderful people and learned so much.  I wish to thank Mayor Chris Meyer for his service to our city.  I now look forward to focusing my energies on representing the residents in the 6th district as I continue working for them on the city council.
