SCHOFIELD, Wis. (WAOW) -

Voters approved a $60 million referendum for the DC Everest School District when they headed to the ballot box Tuesday.

About a dozen residents, school board members and the superintendent gathered at Sconni's in Schofield Tuesday night to watch the results come in.

Cheers erupted when the results came in that the referendum passed.

The money will be used for a variety of things including making buildings more handicap accessible and upgrading school security measures.

"There's lots of items across the district," DC Everest Superintendent Kristine Gilmore said. "I think the largest one item will be the new tech ed facilities at the high school which is a significant supportive move to support economic development in our community. But every single building will be touched in the district."

Gilmore said that she's grateful to be in a community that cares about their schools.

The planning will begin immediately.
