New law in Wisconsin mandates flashing lights on horse buggies

Posted:

Gov. Scott Walker signed a bill that will require all horse driven buggies to have a flashing light in the back.

State leaders are saying they have seen too many crashes as a result to poorly lit buggies.

The Taylor County Highway Commissioner said this was a crucial decision that needed to be made.

"The public is trying to respect their rights and I guess they used their religion as a reason to not wanting to put this stuff on and I think the public and the legislature were trying to respect their rights a little bit but safety obviously comes into play," Jess Sackmann of the Taylor County Highway Commissioner said.

According to the law, the lights must be visible at night and during inclement weather.

It is not certain when the law is set take affect.
