UPDATE: Suspect identified in deadly charter bus shooting in Rockford



UPDATE:  Rockford Police have identified the suspect from Saturday's deadly shooting on a private charter bus.  

The department says after an investigation 22-year-old Rockford resident Raheem King has been identified as the suspect.  Officers say King was armed with an assault rifle and shot the three victims who were also passengers on the bus.  Shortly after the shooting happened, passengers in the vehicle ran away.  The driver remained on the bus and traveled to Springfield Avenue, just south of Auburn Street, where he dialed 911. 

King is still at large and is charged with four counts of first degree murder.

Rockford Police say three people were shot on a private charter bus on Rockford's west side early Saturday morning. 

At a press conference Saturday morning, Rockford Police Chief Dan O'Shea says responded to the the 400 block of North Springfield Road around 3:30 a.m.  When officers arrived on scene they found three people who had died from gunshot wounds inside the private charter bus. 

Officers say the bus had been rented by private citizens on Friday, April 6th.  The three victims have not been identified by the Coroner's Office as of yet. 

During the preliminary investigation, officers determined the suspect was on the bus at the time of the shooting which is believed to have happened in the area of Auburn Street and Johnston Avenue. The suspect ran from the scene. The bus then traveled to Springfield Avenue, just south of Auburn Street where the driver called 911 and met with police at a Mobil gas station. 

Police say Auburn Street is now open to traffic, but the Mobil gas station is still closed to the public. 

This is an active investigation. Police are looking for the public's help in providing any information.  There is no suspect description available at this time. If you know anything call 815-966-2900.
