Wausau police warn residents of car thefts


The Wausau Police Department is warning residents to lock their cars after a string of vehicle thefts.

According to police, officers were called to a car theft on Friday. They were quickly able to find the stolen car and the suspects. During their investigation, police said the suspects had stolen from numerous cars on the southwest side south of W. Thomas Street between S. 8th Avenue and S. 3rd Avenue on Friday.

Police were able to recover some stolen items however have not been able to find the owner of the items. Police said to call Officer Lopes-Serrao at (715) 261-7968 or the dispatch center at (715) 261-1200 if you had items missing from your car on Friday.

Police are reminding people to lock their cars, saying that the doors were unlocked in each of the cars that were stolen from.
