Wood Co. bus driver accused of sexually assaulting teen for two years

A Pittsville bus driver faces up to 96 years in prison for allegedly sexually assaulting a teen over a two-year period.

Forty-six-year-old Scott Thiel was an employee for Hahn Transportation. According to a criminal complaint, his inappropriate relationship with the girl began in 2015.

The then 14-year-old allegedly left her phone on a bus Thiel was driving. When he gave it back to her, his phone number was added to her contact list. The victim told investigators he would text her, asking her inappropriate questions about her body.

Court documents state Thiel would have the teen sit behind him on his bus routes, where he would touch her sexually while driving.

Eventually, they began to have sex. According to the criminal complaint, the intercourse frequently occurred at Thiel's home. During the summer months, the girl told investigators Thiel would ask her to ride her bike to the bus garage at Hahn Transportation so they could have sex.

These types of interactions ensued between October 2015 and December 2017, according to court records.

Thiel has denied the sexual assault accusations. The criminal complaint said he noticed the girl was "kinda a loner" and would call her "beautiful" to cheer her up.

The owner of Hahn Transportation told Newsline 9 he believed it would be inappropriate to comment at this time.

Thiel is being held in the Wood County Jail, and faces several charges including repeated sexual assault of a child and child enticement.
