Small Business Week in Wausau kicks off Monday

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Wausau celebrates business owners and their contributions to the community during Small Business Week that starts Monday and will feature the awarding of some small business honors.

Fourteen businesses or charitable non-profit groups have been nominated in three categories for Small Business of the Year awards that will be handed out Tuesday at Stoney Creek Hotel & Conference Center in Rothschild. The week - sponsored by Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce - also features the largest business trade show in the state on Thursday.

"Small businesses employ a lot of people and when we look at the changes that have taken place and will take place in the workplace, small businesses are what help people grow in their careers," said Peter Valiska, chairman of Small Business Week.

The week kicks off Monday with a legislator's forum and wraps up Friday with a small business of the year recognition ceremony.

The week is designed to showcase the importance of small businesses to the economy and to help them succeed.
