Hemp farming makes its way to Wisconsin

The Wisconsin State of Agriculture has received 85 applications from farmers who want to start planting hemp seeds.

Farmers have applied all over the state, including Marathon County.

According to the department, the seeds need to have less than three percent of the T-H-C which works as an active ingredient in marijuana. A drug that is illegal in the Badger State.

However, there comes extra rules for farmers who are allowed to start planting the seeds.

"Well the state has to physically come to the field to sample it, take the sample back to the lab and analyze it and make sure it's below that three percent T-H-C level," Brian Kuhn of the Department of Agriculture said.

According to Kuhn, farmers will have to go through a complete criminal and background check, before being allowed to grow the plant.
