One person dead, five injured after crash near Wisconsin Dells

UPDATE: A notice on the county sheriff's social media page updates the age of the driver who died in the crash. Officials correct that she was 30, not 25 as previously stated.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office says one person has died and four were seriously injured in the crash early Saturday morning.  

A news release from Sheriff Dennis Richards says four agencies, including the Wisconsin Dells PD, responded to the two-car accident.  It happened at State Road 16 at Lewiston Station Road in the Town of Lewiston -- about six miles east of The Dells. 

Investigators say the roads were slush-covered and light freezing rain was falling when a Chrysler minivan began to spin and was struck by a Jeep Compass as it crossed the centerline. 

Officials say four people were in the minivan. The 25-year-old driver who died from her injuries was a woman from Poynette.

Her passengers, who were all injured, included a 30-year-old woman from Portage, a 27-year-old man from Sturtevant and a 28-year-old woman from Portage.  The westbound Jeep was driven by a 27-year-old woman from Portage who was also injured in the collision. 

All five who were taken to local hospitals -- their conditions weren't available. 

The names of those involved aren't being released, pending officials notifying their family members.

WISCONSIN DELLS (WKOW) --  Columbia County sheriff's dispatchers confirm to 27 News deputies are responding to a two car crash that has all lanes of WIS 16 closed at Lewiston Station Rd, southeast of Wisconsin Dells.  

According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation the crash happened shortly before 6:00 a.m.  The road could be closed for two hours while authorities investigate and clean up.  Dispatchers say the early investigation indicates the crash is weather-related.  According to the 27 Stormtrack Weather team there is freezing rain in the area.  

There are people hurt in this accident.  Dispatchers say three ambulances are at the scene.
