Law enforcement advises drivers not to travel Sunday

Multiple law enforcement agencies in North Central Wisconsin are advising against driving in Sunday's storm conditions.

Portage County Sheriff Mike Lukas said main and secondary roadways are impassable because of drifting and blowing snow. He's calling travel in the county "not recommended."

Additionally, the Wausau Police Department posted on Facebook citing the WisDOT Map, which states most major highways have been marked as "travel not advised." In a press release, Chief Ben Bliven said plow drivers will be taking a break until Sunday night.

In Langlade County, the sheriff's office is telling drivers only to travel if "it is an actual emergency."

Wood county has also issued a warning for drivers, declaring "travel is not advised." If you have to drive, officers are urging you to take the property safety precautions, and make sure your lights, defrosters, windshield wipers and tires are in good shape.
