Ashwaubenon hotel roof collapses in snowstorm, no injuries

A portion of the roof of an Ashwaubenon hotel collapsed Sunday morning.

The roof collapsed over the pool area at the EconoLodge on Ramada Way before 10 a.m.

No one was hurt.

“Upon our arrival here, we observed probably about a 40 foot collapse into the pool area here. Luckily, at the time of the collapse, there was no one inside,” says Chief Eric Dunning, Ashwaubenon Public Safety.

The accident happened during a snowstorm that dropped more than 15 inches of snow in Ashwaubenon, but it's not confirmed if the collapse is related to the weather.

Ashwaubenon Public Safety and De Pere fire departments responded to the call. Ramada Way was blocked off during the initial response.

“We haven't seen snow in these amounts in years. And then on top of that with the heavy moisture content. Any kind of structural issue is only going to be multiplied with what's going on,” Chief Dunning says.

65 people were re-located to the Super 8.

Right now, it’s unclear how much damage the collapse has caused.
