"What were you wearing?" sexual assault installation on display in Wausau

The Women's Community teamed up with Center for the Visual Arts in Wausau to create the "What were you wearing?" exhibit.

It aims to address the stigma surrounding sexual assault victims. The installation features clothing worn by survivors when they were abused, as well as their personal stories.

"It might be disturbing, but yet it's important that it creates the awareness," said Jessica Lind of The Women's Community.

The exhibit is raw - but with a purpose.

"I really wanted to try and exhibit each piece of clothing so it kind of disappears in the wall," said Rose DeHut, the executive director of the Center for the Visual Arts. "So the story and the clothing is just there, it's right in front of you."

If you or anyone you know is being sexually abused, you can call the confidential, 24-hour Women's Community hotline at (715) 842-7323.
