A Wausau business "lights up" against lung cancer

American Lung Association employees wore turquoise Tuesday to show their support for the 5th annual Turquoise Takeover Week. It's in conjunction with the National Women's Lung Health Week.

The Nationwide Insurance building in Wausau was supposed to be illuminated in turquoise Tuesday evening, joining other buildings across the country. As of 9:15 PM it was not lit.
The American Lung Association said lung cancer is the number one cancer killer of women.
Jenny Kislow, a volunteer for the organization, said it's a growing concern.

"The number of women getting lung cancer has nearly doubled in the last 30 years," said Kislow. "And I don't think very many people also realize that, so for the Nationwide Insurance building becoming turquoise, we are bringing awareness."

After losing her husband to lung cancer 6 years ago, Kislow now advocates for greater awareness of the disease in the community and early detection screenings.
