Wausau hospital thanks local nurses for their dedication

Nurses across the nation are being thanked during National Nurse Appreciation Week.

More than 600 nurses make up the staff inside Aspirus Wausau Hospital, and directors showed their gratitude.

"People don't always understand how difficult it is and how much effort and consideration goes into the patient care," said nursing director Robin Rudie.

This week, the hospital hosted several events such as raffles, basket giving, and massage therapy sessions for their nurses.

"They are very appreciated and valued for what they contribute to others' lives," said nursing manager Joni Hahn.

Shanon Feltz has worked as a registered nurse for five years, and said her job is rewarding even on the worst days.

"I work 12 hour shifts, but it's all worth it," Feltz said.

When asked what characteristics nurses hold, directors summed it up in a few words.

"They're smart, they're funny, they're compassionate," Rudie said.

Local restaurants and other businesses are giving discounts to nurses who come in and show their badges.
