WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) -

Volunteers will compete for a gold medal and for a great cause on Saturday.

The Special Olympics Wisconsin is hosting it's 18th year of "Be Strong" event at Franck's Gym in Wausau.

The event includes bench press, deadlift, and team truck-pull. Also, with the benefit, a 5k run/walk and motorcycle ride will also be going on.

Organizers set a goal of $10,000 to help fund the Special Olympics Wisconsin. So far, $5,400 has been collected.

Director of special events Jordan Becker said the event showcases the mission of the organization.

"This is all about working out and furthering yourself," Becker said.

Committee member Bob Roeske has volunteered for the event for more than a decade and said he's always pleased with the level of support shown.

"Those guys are true athletes," he said. "We have to help in any way possible."

The day-long event starts at 8:30 a.m. on May 12.

You can still sign up for the event the day of or on the Special Olympics Wisconsin website.
