Milwaukee County committee unanimously OKs question about legal pot

Posted:

MILWAUKEE (WISN) -- The county's full board of supervisors later this month will consider a proposal to put an advisory question about legalizing marijuana on the November ballot.

The question, proposed by Supervisor John F. Weishan Jr., moved out of the Judiciary, Safety and General Services committee after a unanimous Thursday morning vote.

More than two dozen people spoke at the public hearing in favor of Weishan's proposal, which would be advisory only.

The question would read:

"Do you favor allowing adults 21 years of age and older to engage in the personal use of marijuana, while also regulating commercial marijuana-related activities, and imposing a tax on the sale of marijuana?"

A move to include the question on August's primary election ballot failed.

The full Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors will take up the proposal on May 24.
