Student lunch debt paid off by local businesses in Chippewa Falls

Chippewa Falls (WQOW) - In Chippewa Falls, students' lunch debt is being covered by the generosity of local businesses.

Royce Roberts, the owner of Bomb Tacos, said they decided to pay off lunch accounts for at least one of the schools in the district, but when they found out it was only $1,300 between all nine schools they figured they could cover it all with a little help from some other local businesses.

As word of the fundraiser got out, more and more people joined in.

Friday, a representative from Woodman's Market showed up to help, and Roberts even said his friends from around the Midwest are calling, asking where to send their checks.

"We said we were going to donate $300 and 10 percent of our sales," Roberts said. "I know there are at least two or three other businesses that are doing the same. I just know we're probably about three quarters of the way there, so far. It's great, I couldn't ask for more, honestly. I just love my hometown, that's about it."

If you want to help, the fundraiser runs from 12-8 p.m. Saturday.
