Experts see increased awareness in opioid epidemic

CENTRAL WISCONSIN (WAOW) -

The opioid epidemic continues to claim lives nationwide including here in central Wisconsin.

In April, Brian Kienast, 28, of Adams County, was found dead inside a Marathon City motel closet. Police said it appeared to be an accidental overdose.

Experts say the issue impacts everyone, regardless of where you live.

"It really doesn't discriminate," Melissa Moore, of the Drug Free Communities Program said. "It doesn't matter where you grew up, what kind of job you do, how much money do you make, did you go to church, do you volunteer in the community."

Moore said the issue is ongoing, but more people are becoming aware of the impact drugs are having on others.

Officials said more information will be released in Kienast's death on Friday.
