Busy weekend in the Northwoods kicks off

A busy weekend for the Northwoods kicked off Friday despite the dangerous heat.

The boat docks were busy and boat rentals were booked solid for the day at some locations.

"We went to the middle of the lake and you could kind of just swim around," said Megan Martin, who was visiting from Michigan. "The weather was beautiful."

There were plenty of boats out on the lake, and the beach was full of people cooling off as the temperatures rose.

Business owners in the area said the heat didn't have any impact on them.

"We need a little heat, just jump in the lake that's what lakes are for," said Minocqua Brewing Company Owner Kirk Bangstad.  "The whole town of Minocqua is buzzing right now."

With the Fourth of July falls on a Wednesday, businesses said they'll be busy both weekends.

"10 days no matter what around Fourth of July are always jammed pack, it probably won't affect anything too much, because this weekend will be big, next weekend will be big, we'll be big every day throughout," said Bangstad.

Restaurants were filled with people.

"It's been a great start," said Thirsty Whale Bar Manager Kristi Bant. "I think great weather always helps tourism up here."
