Fire destroys Marathon Co. home

A home is a complete loss after a fire tore through late Monday afternoon.

Officials said they got the call around 4:45 p.m. about a house engulfed in flames in the town of Hewitt.

Four kids, their mom, three dogs and a pig were all inside at the time. They were all able to get out safely. However, the home needed to be completely torn down. You could see some toys left in the rubble, the family was able to salvage some photos.

"The hardest part about this scene is the steel roof, it doesn't let us access the roof easily so it keeps everything inside," said town of Hewitt Fire Chief Robin Siikarla.

The family is left with nothing. The kids range in age from four years old up to 17 years old. The fire devastated the family and they're in need of basically everything.

Firefighters rushed to a house fire with smoke billowing from it about 16 miles northeast of Wausau late Monday afternoon.

Authorities at the scene said everyone inside the home in the Town of Hewitt got out safe. All lanes of Highway 52 at Pitt Road were blocked off around 4:45 p.m. as crews worked to put out the flames, according to a notice from the Wisconsin DOT.
Several volunteer fire departments were summoned to the scene. The Marathon County Sheriff's Department said the home was fully engulfed in flames at one point.  The Salvation Army and Wisconsin Public Service were also on scene.

No details about a cause were released.
