Wausau family thankful for receiving free rent after son's death

News 9 first told you about the Saylers family in May when they received free rent up to six months from Buska Retirement Solutions.

The family had just lost their teenage son Noah in March from a brain tumor when they started facing crippling bills that threatened to take the family under.

Noah was just three days shy of this 17th birthday.

"We fell behind on bills and we knew rent was coming up," said Kimberly Saylers.

As Noah had gotten sicker, his mom Kimberly had left her job to stay home with him.

"It just became really stressful not knowing how much time he had left the doctors really didn't know and as a mother I just wanted to be home with him," Saylers said.

The Saylers weren't sure how they would pay it, that is when Sue Buska heard about Kimberly and Noah on social media.

Each year Buska Retirement Solutions looks for a family to help.

"Out of all the applications we received we felt that the Salyers family was the most compelling with their situation, we felt that they could improve the most by providing this gift," said Cole Bruner of Buska Retirement Solutions.

That gift of free rent for six months was a lifeline for Kimberly.

"It helped out a lot with getting back on track with the loss of work that we had with being out of work for so long with having our son in hospice care," Saylers said.

The Buska Retirement Solutions tell News 9 that they hope to help more families in the future.
