Weather puts damper on some Fourth of July celebrations

America's birthday was celebrated nationwide and here in central Wisconsin with various events all day long, ending with a firework show at dusk.

Due to some wet weather, events in Merrill and Ogema were postponed.  Tomahawk held its annual Fourth of July parade but canceled later events due to the stormy skies.

People at Riverfest in La Crosse were evacuated on Wednesday after storms came through.  The heavy winds damaged a stage, knocked over tents and several port-a-potties.  Riverfest fireworks have been rescheduled for Thursday. Organizers at Marathon Park in Wausau said multiple factors go into determining whether or not they can light up the sky.

"You got two different factors, one factor would be if there's rain at the time, and if it continues to be raining throughout this evening and the other fact is where the wind is at right now and where it's predicted to be in the next half hour, hour," Kevin Malovrh said.

Despite rain in the forecast, Marathon Park held their annual firework show just after 10 p.m. Nearby Mosinee fireworks launched around 9:30 p.m.

Fourth of July fun continues at Marathon Park through Sunday, admission is free.
