Annual Mosinee Fourth of July parade draws hundreds of people

A variety of floats, fire trucks and other vehicles made their way down Main Street in Mosinee Wednesday afternoon. Hundreds of people endured warm temperatures and swarms of mosquitoes to see it all.

"The kids love coming to the parade in such a small community like Mosinee," said Carl Walbort of Mosinee. "They put on a great show."

For some, this was their first time watching the parade and taking part in the activities at River Park.

"We're definitely seeing some good stuff," said Gidget Armbruster. "I love it because it's a tiny little town. We just moved here from El Paso Texas and we're just looking to have some fun for the Fourth of July!"

City officials credit the big turnout to the holiday being in the middle of the week.

"It's great to see the community coming out and actually... With it being in the middle of the week, we tend to get a lot more people coming to parade because they're not out of town on an extended weekend or something," said Mosinee Mayor Brent Jacobson. "So we saw a great turnout for our parade today."

There was some debate over what the best part of the parade was.

"The firetrucks. The Police cars. No! Firetrucks!" debated Ryker and Daxton Mactaggart.

"I like them all," said Carl Walbort. "My son likes tractors and the big trucks, stuff like that. It's just a good thing to get out of the house, even though it is quite warm today."

Meanwhile, Mayor Jacobson praised the whole day of activity in the city, saying that the parade was only one piece of it.

"Earlier on this morning we started with the 5K run walk this morning," said Jacobson. "My wife and I participated. It's a great opportunity to walk through the city and I want everyone to know that I officially took last place. So I was the last one to cross the line today."

Following the parade, many people made their way to River Park in Mosinee to check out the activities and wait for the fireworks display.
