UPDATE: Person of interest in Wausau incident arrested


Police said 34-year-old Matthew Robinson has been taken into custody after an anonymous tip. Police were searching for Robinson after reports of gunfire inside a home on N. 6th St. early Saturday morning.

"No one was injured and several departments got together and solved it quickly with the help of the community and we are very grateful," Lieutenant Dwayne Dachel said.

According to police, they received an anonymous tip that Robinson was in a hotel in the Rothschild area. When officers arrived, Robinson fled on foot leading to a short pursuit.
"K-9 Radar was released and he was able to make contact with Robinson and was able to hold him for us," Dachel said. 


Police are searching for 34-year-old Matthew Robinson as a person of interest after reports of shots fired in Wausau early Saturday.

Officials said they were called to N. 6th St. near Fulton St. on reports of a gunshot inside a home. When they got there they were able to take the occupants out of the house but did not find the suspect.

No one was injured in the incident. Police said Robinson is 6'5" and 180 pounds and is considered a person of interest.

They said they aren't sure if he's in a vehicle. Police said strangulation and endangering safety are several of the possible charges the suspect could face.


A portion of North 6th Street near Fulton Street in Wausau was blocked off early Saturday morning, according to witnesses.

Witnesses tell News 9 they were told to leave the area or stay indoors by police around 8 a.m. They said they saw police with machine guns, rifles and the K-9 unit in the neighborhood.

They said they were told around 10 a.m. that everything was safe.

The Wausau Police Department told News 9 they can't give us any details at this time because they're still investigating the situation.
