Benefit held for Wausau woman injured in fire

A 19-year-old Wausau woman is still recovering after she jumped out of a burning building, just over a month ago.

Krista Betz jumped out of a second story window when her apartment building caught fire. She was in the intensive care unit for days with broken bones.

A benefit was held for her and her fiance in Athens on Saturday.

Dozens of community members came together to ride motorcycles and to raise money for the couple.

All proceeds will go toward replacing items lost in the fire and toward Betz's medical bills.

Her mother said her daughter's recovery is moving in the right direction.

"Everything is continuing to be evaluated," Sandy Betz said. "She still goes to physical therapy, so it's all a continuous journey at this point."

Betz also said Krista's condition will be evaluated again this week.

At this time, Krista's wedding is still on for the end of the month.
