Marathon County Library holds toddler dance party

You'd normally expect the Marathon County Public Library to be quiet, but on Monday, it was filled with music, bubbles and dancing toddlers.

"We can't forget about our littlest patrons," Youth Services Librarian Taylor Weinfurter said.

These new toddler dance parties give area children the opportunity to dance around and listen to stories.

"The first three years of a child's life are very important just for brain development," Weinfurter added. "Any way to get parents and kids in the library, get them reading, hearing some stories, having some fun, it's really working their little brains."

Parents said it's great for their children.

"Just kind of gets them out and get a chance to socialize and get all of that rambunctious energy out," mother Taylor Howe said.

For toddlers who are on the shy side, the library offers plenty of activities for them, too.

"They can sit downstairs and read a book, or they can go to the early literacy center and do some activities there," Weinfurter said.

The summer activity is set to wrap up this month, but it could become a year-round event.

The library also offers several programs for school-aged children.
