Controversy doesn't hold back Wausau BBQ business

The City of Wausau tells a man he can't sell his barbecue outside of Wausau Events annual Balloon and Rib Fest, so he's found an alternative.

Kim Lemke has sold BBQ in a friend's driveway just outside the festival for the past five years.

Year after year, more customers were attracted to Kim's BS BBQ which caused one neighbor to complain.

"We had a written notice from a concerned neighbor that was irritated by the activity, it became a burden on them with trying to get in and out of their driveway, people that were maybe leaving a napkin or a plate," William Hebert, Wausau's Zoning Administrator said.

After the complaint, the city realized Lemke was not allowed to have commercial sales in a residential zone.

"I thought it was the end of the line for Kim's BS Sauce in conjunction with Rib Fest," Kim Lemke, owner of Kim's BS BBQ Sauce said.

With the help of friends and local business owners, Kim's famous BBQ will sell his dishes at the Midas store on Grand Avenue during Wausau's busiest weekend.

"I can't tell you how excited I am for this, it's incredible, it's outstanding," Lemke said.

The BBQ stand will be open Thursday through Saturday.
