Susan Poupart Cold Case

Updated:
VILAS COUNTY--Vilas County Sheriff John Niebuhr says, "The party broke up at about 4 in the morning, she was seen leaving the party." But on the early morning of May 20, 1990 29-year-old Susan Poupart of Lac du Flambeau vanished, never to return home to her two children. Her remains were found 6 months later in a Price County forest. Niebuhr says, "Facts lead us to believe she was murdered." For the last 17 years the Vilas County Sheriff's Department has kept this case far from cold. Niebuhr says, "I think we followed every lead that we could find." Today, the Sheriff says, they are trying to follow up more leads by holding a closed John Doe court hearing. Niebuhr says, "A John Doe is an investigative tool that law enforcement uses in conjunction with the courts." But even 17 years later, still no one has been charged. Niebuhr says, "I'm not sure that we have suspects right now. We do have people that we're interested in." The Sheriff says he will never give up on this case. Niebuhr says, "We owe it to Susie, and we owe it to her family. That's our duty, that's our job." If you have any information please contact the Vilas County Sheriff's Department.
