WASHINGTON D.C. -- Congressman Dave Obey is talking about the assassination and what it means to the U-S. He says Bhutto's death is a serious setback to establishing democracy in Pakistan, calling her the key to political stability.
Obey says, "There is no other modern progressive politician on the scene who had the potential for creating any kind of alliance at all with forces who were opposed to the Islamic extremism."
Obey says the country's unrest has been coming for a long time.
He says the U.S. has paid a lot of attention to Iraq and not enough to the situation in Pakistan.
Obey's not sure if the upcoming elections in the country will bring any positive changes for Pakistan.
