Feingold, Kohl Endorse Obama For President

WASHINGTON -- Wisconsin Sens. Russ Feingold and Herb Kohl have endorsed Barack Obama for president -- a day after the Illinois senator clinched the Democratic presidential nomination over rival Hillary Rodham Clinton. The endorsements were not a surprise. Feingold had said he was "inclined" to support Obama after the Illinois senator won Wisconsin's Democratic primary in February. But Feingold held off making the endorsement until now. In a statement Wednesday, he calls Obama "an effective leader, capable of leading our country into a new era." Kohl says that now that Obama has clinched the nomination, "we can unite behind his historic candidacy." As superdelegates, the senators are free to vote for any candidate they wish at the Democratic convention.
