Rudolph Man Announces His Intent To Run Against Obey

RUDOLPH -- A Rudolph man says he'll run against Obey for the 7th district seat in this year's election. Dan Mielke is running as a Republican candidate. He considers himself an organic farmer and citizen's rights advocate. Mielke says he's choosing to run against Obey because he thinks the current congressman has been in office for too long. He also considers him a rank and file democrat. "It's one thing to have a loyalty to your party's affiliation but when you let that interfere with the job we hired you to do and elected you to do, then there's a problem and that needs to be changed," Mielke says. Obey.. who's been a Congressman for 38 years.. disagrees. He says he passed 12 bi-partisan bills through the house this year. As for this year's election.. Obey hasn't given it much thought. "It's a free country, anybody's entitled to run. As far as I'm concerned we haven't even finished the presidential primary system yet so I think elections are far too long. I don't intend to pay much attention to it until after filing day," Obey says. The two will face off this November.
