Eau Claire (WQOW) - A local lawmaker makes a major move as he files for re-election.
Rep. Jeff Wood is leaving the Republican Party.
"I really thought the Republican Party was a party of fiscal responsibility and limited government. I don't believe those two anymore," said Rep. Wood in a telephone interview.
Rep. Wood filed as an Independent. He represents the 67th Assembly District. He was first elected as a republican in 2002 and has been re-elected twice. Through the years, he's been known for his independent voting style -- breaking ranks with fellow Republicans.
He says he's considered leaving the party for some time and even thought about dropping out of the race this fall.
