Wisconsin valley fair kicks off

by Teresa Mackin

MARATHON CO (WAOW) --  The Wisconsin Valley Fair officially kicks off it's 140th year. If you look past the rides and the food, you can actually find hundreds of area kids showing judges the 4-H projects they've worked on all year.

Away from the bustle of fair rides and lights, we found Taylor Woller. Taylor and her brother brought dozens of homemade creations to be judged at the fair. Every year she makes her own purses (this year out of broken umbrellas), clothes and even clocks.

Woller says, "I had a motor lying around so I wanted to try something different instead of what I normally do."

Her brother brought in a homemade space ship. Kolton Woller says, "This was harder than usual because you have to glue it, figure out where it goes."

They're just two of the many people, bringing their projects to judges who sit down and talk with each kid individually. You'll find just about everything here, quilts, flowers, even woodworking projects.
