Sharing a love for tractor pulls

by Cami Mountain

ARPIN (WAOW) -- In Wood County, people are pulling their tractors from the fields and taking them to the streets, for the 41st annual Arpin Tractor Pull Weekend.  There you can find lots of people who are proud of how far their tractors can pull an extremely heavy object.  And one of those men is passing down that pride to his grandson.

Bernie Esser has entered a tractor in the Arpin Tractor Pull for the last 10 years.  This year, his grandson Adam is getting in the game too.

Adam says, "My grandpa lives across the road and he has like 9 tractors. I do a lot of stuff with him. He asked me to pull this year. So, I decided, 'what the heck, let's see what happens.''

Adam is 18,  his grandfather 82.  But the men share a special bond, that only a grandfather and his grandson know.

Bernie says, "There's a lot of things that I know that I'm trying to teach him."

And Adam is ready to soak up any lesson his grandfather throws his way.  And as much time as he can too.

Adam says, "It helps me to get a chance to spend more time with him. Because, I never used to. He's getting up there in age. So, hopefully, spend as much time with him as I can, I guess."

Bernie adds, "This will probably be my last year of doing this, so, if I can pass it on to him, fine."

But besides a love for the green and gold, tractors..

Adam adds, "It's something that we both have in common, that we both enjoy pretty much. John Deere tractors."

The men also share a healthy appetite, for a good contest.

Bernie says, "It just becomes a challenge."

Adam adds, "I'd say, probably competition."
