GOP ends presidential ads in WI

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Republican National Committee is halting presidential ads in Wisconsin to turn its attention to other states where GOP nominee John McCain shows signs of faltering.

The pullout is a significant strategic move, but it does not represent a full retreat from the state with Barack Obama pulling ahead in the polls.

McCain's campaign has notified Wisconsin stations that it planned to continue to buy air time through at least Oct. 26.

Wisconsin has been a seriously contested state in seven of the last eight presidential elections with Democrats winning narrowly in six of them.

McCain Wisconsin spokeswoman Sarah Lenti says they aren't talking about their strategy or tactics but maintains they're extremely excited by their chances in Wisconsin.
